Pension Solicitor | A Rare Opportunity to Influence the UK Pensions Landscape - London

    £90,000 – £95,000 + Exceptional Pension & Benefits

London /Hybrid Working | Full-Time or Four Days a Week

Looking for a pensions role that offers something genuinely different?

Not every pension solicitor wants to spend their career advising from the sidelines. For those who enjoy getting to the heart of complex legal issues, influencing important decisions and seeing the tangible impact of their advice, this opportunity offers a particularly interesting alternative to traditional private practice.

We are working with a highly regarded and influential organisation at the heart of the UK defined benefit pensions landscape, which is looking to appoint a talented pensions solicitor to its established and well-respected in-house legal team.

Operating at considerable scale and occupying a unique position within the pensions industry, the organisation is closely connected to some of the most significant developments shaping the future of UK pensions.

This is an opportunity to move beyond conventional legal advisory work and become directly involved in the decisions, challenges and legislative developments influencing the wider pensions market.

    The Opportunity

Joining a highly experienced legal team, you will work closely with senior solicitors, business leaders and key stakeholders, providing commercially focused, pragmatic advice on a broad range of complex pensions matters.

The work is intellectually stimulating, varied and often strategically important. One day you could be advising on a challenging question involving the interpretation of pensions legislation; the next, contributing to a wider policy initiative, supporting a significant business decision or preparing advice for senior management and the Board.

With the pensions landscape undergoing considerable legislative and regulatory change, there is also the opportunity to gain exposure to policy development, emerging legislation and engagement with influential external stakeholders.

Unlike many traditional pension roles, the emphasis is not simply on identifying legal issues, but on understanding the wider commercial and operational context and helping the organisation navigate a practical way forward.

There is also scope to broaden your expertise beyond pure pensions law, making this an attractive opportunity for someone who enjoys variety and wants to develop into a more rounded in-house solicitor.

    Who Are We Looking For?

We are interested in speaking with qualified solicitors who have developed a strong technical grounding in UK defined benefit pensions law, whether in private practice or an in-house environment. With the following experience:

    • A sound understanding of the UK DB pensions framework, particularly the Pensions Act 2004.
    • The ability to interpret complex legislation and translate technical legal advice into clear, accessible and commercially relevant recommendations.
    • Strong analytical skills, sound judgement and a pragmatic approach to problem-solving.
    • Confidence engaging with senior stakeholders and an ability to build credibility across different business functions.
    • An interest in the broader pensions landscape, including legislative reform, regulation and policy developments.
    • The adaptability and intellectual curiosity to become involved in legal matters outside your immediate specialism.

Importantly, this is not a role where years of post-qualification experience will be the defining factor. We are far more interested in technical credibility, intellectual ability, sound judgement and the capacity to build trusted relationships.

    Why Is This Opportunity Different?

For a pensions solicitor who enjoys the technical intricacies of the discipline but would welcome a different perspective, there are several particularly compelling attractions.

A genuinely influential position: Work within an organisation that plays a significant role in the UK pensions system, with exposure to matters extending beyond the interests of an individual scheme or client.

A front-row seat to change: Gain insight into the legislative, regulatory and policy developments shaping the future of pensions.

High-quality, intellectually engaging work: Tackle complex legal questions with real-world implications, working alongside experienced solicitors and senior decision-makers.

A broader career platform: Develop your commercial judgement, stakeholder management and wider in-house advisory skills, with opportunities to extend your expertise beyond pensions.

A different working environment: Enjoy the benefits of a collaborative in-house legal team, with the opportunity to take ownership of your work and see the impact of your advice.

    The Package

The position offers a salary of £90,000–£95,000, complemented by an exceptionally attractive pension arrangement and wider benefits package.

Hybrid working is available, with office attendance from two days per week.

    Interested in Exploring Something Different?

Opportunities offering this combination of technical pensions work, strategic influence, legislative exposure and genuine work-life balance are relatively unusual.

If you are a pension solicitor who enjoys the intellectual challenge of the discipline but is curious about applying your expertise in a different environment, this could be a particularly interesting next step.
